Every agency claims to understand pipeline. Here's what to actually check before you sign anything, and why each one matters more in SaaS than it does for most other businesses.
01 · Proof, not promises
Industry experience you can verify
A SaaS deal rarely closes on one visit. It usually takes 6-10 touchpoints across a champion, a budget holder, and an end user before anyone signs, and generic B2C targeting by job title alone misses most of that buying committee. Ask any agency to show you a real ABM or intent-based campaign built around an ICP, and a closed-loop pipeline dashboard, not a slide deck of logos. SearchPod will walk you through a live account on your strategy call, before you sign anything.
02 · See the number before you sign
Transparent pricing, in writing
SaaS agencies are known for vague "media management" retainers that hide a markup on your ad spend or a setup fee buried in the contract. Ask for the fee as a flat number or a clear percentage of your budget, in writing, before you spend a dollar. Our Google Ads fee is 10% of your monthly budget with a $600/mo minimum, your ad budget goes to Google in full, and there are no setup fees.
03 · Fast pivots need a fast exit
No long-term contracts
SaaS companies change ICP, pricing, and positioning fast, especially after a raise or a product pivot, so a 12-month agency contract can lock you into campaigns built for a buyer you no longer sell to. Ask what happens if your GTM strategy changes in month three. We run month-to-month with a 30-day guarantee: if the first 30 days don't show real work and results, that month is free.
04 · Pipeline, not vanity metrics
Reporting you can actually read
A report full of impressions and MQLs means nothing if none of it turns into demos or revenue. SaaS reporting should show pipeline generated, CAC, demo booking rate, and trial-to-paid conversion, tied back to your CRM, not a PDF of clicks once a month. Ask to see a live attribution dashboard before you commit.
05 · Your CRM, not ours
Ownership of your accounts and data
Your entire GTM motion lives in HubSpot, Salesforce, or Marketo, so if an agency builds campaigns inside accounts they control, leaving them can mean losing your pipeline history and attribution data along with them. Ask, in writing, whether the Google Ads account, LinkedIn account, and CRM integrations will be registered to your business or the agency's. Every account we set up is registered to you from day one.
